The Anambra State Government has strongly condemned the killing of 13 persons in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area, vowing to ensure justice for the victims.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the attack as a “dastardly act,” and extended the government’s condolences to the families of the deceased.

“The Anambra State Government is deeply saddened by the recent killing of innocent lives at Ogboji.

“We strongly condemn this act in the strongest possible terms and assure the victims’ families of our commitment to justice,” Mefor said.

He noted that preliminary investigations suggest the violence may have stemmed from an internal dispute, and clarified that it was not targeted at any specific ethnic group or state.

Eyewitnesses said gunmen stormed the area in two SUVs during a monthly meeting on Monday, opened fire, and fled after causing mayhem.

Mefor emphasized the government’s expectation that the police will carry out a thorough investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

“We urge all residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. The state government is committed to doing everything humanly possible to ensure peace, security, and justice,” he added.
