Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has lashed out at President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing it as incapable and disconnected from the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
He made the remarks in Abuja on Wednesday during the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as a new coalition platform for the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi also announced his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he had formally submitted his letter on Tuesday.
He disclosed that he had long distanced himself from party activities.
“I left APC last night. I never attended one meeting. In fact, I warned them not to invite me. I was even surprised they didn’t expel me,” Amaechi said.
Taking direct aim at President Tinubu, Amaechi declared: “I have never believed that Tinubu is a material to govern the country. Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat, inflation is at its peak, and the government is more focused on hijacking elections with the help of INEC.”
The former Rivers State governor and two-time minister under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari lamented the worsening economic situation in the country, contrasting it with the Buhari era.
“People now want Buhari to return… then, the dollar was around N460. Now, it’s N1,580. More than 100 percent increase,” he said.
Amaechi hailed the ADC coalition not merely as another political party, but as a growing national movement.
“What has happened here is not just the formation of a party but a movement… a movement that empowers Nigerians to take over the government themselves,” he stated.
His public resignation and criticism mark a significant political realignment and come as the opposition ramps up efforts to challenge the APC in 2027.
