The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has issued an ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu, listing eight demands that must be met within 72 hours or face a nationwide protest on August 1, 2025.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, NYCN Vice President (North East), Bishop Douglas Kanatapwa, said the demands reflect the urgency of youth hardship in Nigeria, not political motives.
He cited high unemployment, rising food prices, and poor access to healthcare and education as pressing issues.
Key demands include transparency in governance, affordable healthcare, education and vocational investment, food security measures, youth-focused economic programs, fuel and food subsidies, a national youth conference, and dialogue with the National Security Adviser on insecurity.
Kanatapwa warned that failure to act would trigger peaceful protests nationwide.
He also criticized youth exclusion from key national programs and appointments.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to unity and development but insisted that the government must show equal commitment through concrete action.
