The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has affirmed that Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the party’s National Secretary.
Damagum made the clarification on Monday in Abuja after the PDP’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC), meeting held at the party’s national secretariat.
He said the meeting focused solely on the outcome of the party’s engagement with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), over the secretarial position, adding, “We all agreed that Senator Anyanwu will continue to act as National Secretary.”
He further disclosed that he and Anyanwu will jointly notify INEC ahead of the next NEC meeting scheduled for July 23, during which the party’s convention will be discussed.
Damagum described the meeting as peaceful despite earlier speculations of possible conflict.
“The beauty of the PDP is that it’s the only party in the country that knows how to resolve its issues without rancour,” he said.
He added that all PDP governors and National Working Committee members were united, with no conflicting statements or signs of internal crisis.
