A farmer, Baba Yakubu, was gruesomely killed by suspected herdsmen on Thursday at Mai Kwari village, Kwali Area Council, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a clash over his cassava farm.

According to a relative, Danjuma Ishaku, trouble began when the herders allowed their cattle to graze on Yakubu’s cassava field. Yakubu, in protest, reportedly struck one of the cows with a cutlass.

In retaliation, one of the herders allegedly stabbed him.

“One of his sons, who was on the farm with him, managed to escape and raised the alarm,” Ishaku said. “Yakubu was rushed to Kwaita Clinic, where he was confirmed dead.”

His remains have since been buried, and the incident has been reported to security agencies in Kwali.

At the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Adeh Josephine, had not responded to inquiries regarding the case.

The killing has sparked outrage in the local community, heightening concerns over the persistent farmer-herder clashes in rural parts of the FCT.
