The Labour Party chairmanship primary election held in Gwagwalada today was marred by violence and intimidation, leading to the disenfranchisement of several delegates.

What was meant to be a democratic exercise quickly descended into chaos, as individuals reportedly armed with sticks, cutlasses, and axes disrupted the process.

The attackers allegedly prevented delegates from casting their votes and threatened the life of a fellow aspirant.

“This was no longer a primary election, but outright voter suppression and electoral violence,” said a witness.

The incident raises serious concerns over the integrity of the process, with calls for possible disqualification of any candidate found to be involved in orchestrating the violence, as stipulated in Nigeria’s electoral laws.

The public is urged to take note of the irregularities that characterized today’s exercise, which failed to uphold the principles of free and fair elections.
