Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged officers and soldiers to recommit to national unity and service as Nigeria battles persistent security challenges.
Speaking in Abuja through Major General Abubakar Ndalolo at a Jumu’ah service marking the Army’s 162nd anniversary, Oluyede said: “Nigerians look to us to overcome the current security challenges. We must renew our commitment to protect the nation’s sovereignty and rights of citizens.”
He emphasized troop welfare as central to the Army’s transformation agenda, noting that this year’s theme, “Developing the Soldier First Concept,” highlights renewed focus on morale and readiness.
Oluyede paid tribute to the late Army Chief, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and honoured fallen soldiers, stating, “Nigeria salutes their gallantry.”
Director of Islamic Affairs, Brigadier General Usman Musa, said the Jumu’ah sermon underscored the importance of spiritual grounding and troop support.
