President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday night met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in Abuja, in a renewed effort to resolve the lingering political crisis in the state.
Also present at the meeting was Martin Amaewhule, the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The feud between Wike and Fubara, which began in 2023, has caused deep political divisions in the state, leading to the split of the Assembly and the demolition of its complex.
In response to the escalating crisis, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025.
He suspended Fubara and the lawmakers and appointed a sole administrator to manage the state’s affairs for an initial period of six months, citing growing unrest and threats to vital oil infrastructure.
Prior to Thursday’s meeting, Tinubu had met with Fubara privately in London in April, and also received the embattled governor on a courtesy visit in Lagos on June 3, 2025.
