The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), has graduated 358 junior officers from the 340th Basic Recruit Course in Kaduna, marking a key milestone in the Service’s reform and capacity-building efforts.
The ceremony, held at the NCoS Training School, was presided over by Deputy Controller-General Olarenwanju Amoran, who represented the Comptroller-General, Sylvester Nwakuch.
Amoran commended the recruits for their discipline and urged them to remain professional, loyal, and committed to the core values of the Service.
In his address, CG Nwakuch emphasized the strategic relevance of the graduation in advancing the NCoS reform agenda, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and the provisions of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019.
He praised the newly revised training curriculum, which integrates both custodial and non-custodial correctional strategies, describing it as a progressive shift in the nation’s correctional approach.
He reiterated the Service’s zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline and misconduct, stressing the need for the new officers to familiarize themselves with relevant laws and operational protocols.
Nwakuch also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and President Tinubu for their continued commitment to correctional reforms.
The event was attended by the Training School Commandant, senior officers, families, and well-wishers.
This graduation marks a crucial step in equipping a new generation of correctional officers to champion reforms, enforce discipline, and promote justice within Nigeria’s custodial system.
