The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has provided financial support to injured sweepers and families of deceased sanitation workers who died in the line of duty.

LAWMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the gesture reflects the Authority’s commitment to the welfare of sanitation workers, describing them as frontline heroes who risk their lives to keep Lagos clean.

“Our sanitation workers operate under hazardous conditions. This support is a way of saying: we see you, we value you, and we will always stand by you,” he stated.

The financial aid is part of LAWMA’s structured welfare package, which includes accident compensation, insurance, health checks, and safety training.

Gbadegesin emphasized that the initiative aligns with LAWMA’s broader goals of social equity and inclusive governance.

He urged sanitation workers to remain vigilant, especially in high-traffic zones and nighttime operations, while assuring continuous upgrades to health and safety protocols.

The cheque presentation is one of several initiatives aimed at creating a safer and more dignified work environment for sanitation personnel across Lagos.
