In a surprise development, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing health concerns.

Ganduje, who served as Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023, stepped into the APC national leadership role in August 2023 during a turbulent period for the party.

His resignation, effective immediately, ends a tenure marked by internal conflicts, public criticism, and multiple court cases.

Although his resignation letter cites health reasons, party insiders suggest political pressure and allegations of financial impropriety contributed to his exit.

Some APC aspirants had earlier accused Ganduje’s office of imposing excessive fees for tickets, sparking unrest within party ranks.

Ganduje also faced legal challenges. In April 2024, a Kano High Court barred him from parading himself as a party member, though a Federal High Court later dismissed a suit seeking his removal.

The APC is yet to issue an official response to his resignation, leaving questions about the future direction of the party’s leadership.
