Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed confidence that Nigeria can still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite currently sitting fourth in their qualifying group.

With the team trailing group leaders South Africa by six points, Nwabali remains hopeful about Nigeria’s chances.

He emphasized the need to approach each game with a winning mindset, stating, “It is football. Just because we are Nigeria doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to win every game.”

He added that the team plans to take it one game at a time, giving their all in each match and evaluating their progress as they go.

So far, the Super Eagles have played six matches in the qualifiers, earning just seven points. To secure qualification, they would need to win all remaining fixtures.

Their hopes may receive a boost if FIFA confirms reports of a possible three-point deduction for South Africa over the use of an ineligible player.

Despite the setbacks, Nwabali remains upbeat. “We are working towards it. I know it’s not going to be easy… We still have a lot of hope, and we believe qualification is possible,” he said, reflecting the team’s determination to revive their campaign.
