A notorious bandit kingpin known as “Me Dada” has been killed by local vigilantes in a major security breakthrough in Zamfara State.

The operation occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2025, in Garagi village, Maru Local Government Area.

According to eyewitnesses, vigilantes ambushed Me Dada and his gang in a coordinated assault following intelligence from local residents.

The feared bandit was killed during the gun battle, while some of his accomplices reportedly fled into the surrounding forest.

Me Dada had long terrorized communities across Zamfara and neighboring states, orchestrating deadly attacks, mass kidnappings, cattle rustling, and the destruction of villages.

His activities had displaced thousands and drawn nationwide concern.

Security agencies had been pursuing him for years without success due to his elusive tactics and deep knowledge of the terrain.

However, this time, the vigilantes, leveraging local intelligence and their familiarity with the area, were able to strike effectively.

His body was retrieved and displayed by the vigilantes as a sign of their victory, sparking widespread celebration in Garagi and surrounding communities.

Residents expressed relief at the death of the criminal, describing it as a turning point in their battle against insecurity.

Community leaders are calling for sustained collaboration between local vigilante groups and formal security agencies to build on the momentum and restore lasting peace to Zamfara.
