The Emir of Dutse, Dr. Hameem Nuhu, has suspended a district head and dismissed a ward head in Jigawa State for alleged violations of emirate council rules and misconduct.
The disciplinary measures were announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Secretary of the Dutse Emirate Council, Amadu Malami.
According to the statement, the District Head of Kadangare, Ibrahim Adamu, was suspended for neglecting official property and allowing the controversial Dodo carnival to be held on his land, contrary to emirate regulations.
“The suspension was due to the district head’s failure to adhere to the council’s rules and properly manage official property,” the statement read.
The council also approved the dismissal of Amadu Iliya, the Ward Head of Lautai in Kiyawa District, for allegedly mortgaging a government-owned farm and collecting excessive fees from community members.
The Emirate Council condemned both acts, describing them as grave misconduct that undermines the dignity and integrity of traditional leadership.
It warned that similar behaviour from other traditional leaders would not be tolerated.
Malami quoted the Emir as urging all traditional leaders under the emirate to uphold the honour of their positions and refrain from any actions capable of bringing the institution into disrepute.
He reiterated that the ban on the Dodo carnival remains in force and anyone found encouraging or allowing it would face disciplinary consequences.
District heads, Malami stressed, are expected to protect official property and strictly obey the directives of the Emirate Council.
He noted that the recent disciplinary actions should serve as a warning to others.
“The Emir’s warning is clear; traditional leaders must not engage in conduct that tarnishes the prestige and respect associated with their offices,” he said.
The council emphasised that the actions taken were meant to reinforce accountability and strengthen governance within the traditional institution.
