The Delta State Police Command has arrested a man in connection with the sudden death of his friend, identified as Ebere, in a hotel room in Okpanam, near Asaba.

The incident occurred on Monday morning and has stirred concerns about the safety and activities within some hotels in the area.

Ebere, 26, had checked into the hotel with his friend on Sunday around 4 p.m.

The duo reportedly spent the evening together, but by the next morning, Ebere was found unresponsive by his companion, who then alerted the hotel management.

Police were quickly notified and arrived at the scene to begin investigations. The friend, considered a key suspect, was immediately detained for questioning, while Ebere’s body was taken to a morgue for autopsy.

Local residents have described the hotel, located at Midwifery Junction, as a known hub for questionable activities, including suspected drug use.

Though there is speculation that substance abuse or foul play may have contributed to the death, the police have not confirmed any cause pending the outcome of the autopsy.

Spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest and assured the public of a thorough investigation.

He urged residents to remain calm and avoid speculation, emphasizing that all findings will be disclosed in due course.

The incident has shocked the Okpanam community, prompting renewed calls for tighter regulation and monitoring of hotels, particularly those with a history of suspicious activities.

Authorities say the suspect will remain in custody as investigations continue, and justice will be pursued based on the facts uncovered.
