The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has confirmed receiving letters of intent from 110 associations seeking registration as political parties.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Wednesday, stating that the applications are being processed in accordance with the law and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
“As of Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” Yakubu said. “We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedures outlined in the law and our guidelines. All applications have been acknowledged, except for six submitted recently, which will be acknowledged before the end of the week.”
He advised individuals and groups interested in forming political parties to consult the Commission’s 2022 Regulations and Guidelines, which are available on the INEC website.
Yakubu added that the Commission has released the full list of the 110 associations, including their proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and the names of their Chairmen and Secretaries.
The list will be made available on INEC’s website and social media platforms, with hard copies distributed at the meeting.
