The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on his political allies contesting in the upcoming Area Council elections to base their campaigns on the achievements of his administration, rather than relying on electoral malpractice.

Wike made this appeal on Tuesday during the official commissioning of the newly completed Idu-Zuba road, part of the events marking President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.

The ceremony was performed on behalf of the President by Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin.

Highlighting the tangible progress made in infrastructure and urban development across the FCT, Wike declared that his administration’s projects serve as effective campaign tools for those seeking public office under his political banner.

“In the forthcoming Area Council elections, I don’t know what the opposition plans to present to the people,” Wike said. “But those standing with us can proudly point to completed projects. These roads, schools, and terminals are our campaign; they are the real evidence.”

He added, “You don’t need to spend money or manipulate the process. The projects are the ‘rigging’. So when you lose, don’t cry foul-ask yourself what you’ve contributed.”

Wike’s remarks appear aimed at cementing a campaign strategy focused on infrastructure delivery, a hallmark of his tenure as FCT Minister.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the transformation of Abuja’s physical landscape and praised President Tinubu for providing the support that has enabled many of the ongoing projects.

The commissioning of the Idu-Zuba road is one of several high-profile infrastructure projects being completed under Wike’s leadership, reinforcing the administration’s development-focused narrative ahead of the 2026 FCT Area Council elections.
