A swift response by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command on Monday thwarted a robbery attempt in Zone E Extension, Apo Resettlement, Abuja, following a distress call from a commercial motorcyclist who reported gunfire in the area.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that police operatives engaged the robbers in a fierce gun duel.
Reinforcements, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Isyaku Sharu, arrived promptly and overpowered the assailants, forcing them to flee into the surrounding hills.
A joint manhunt by the police and local vigilantes is underway to track down the fleeing suspects.
During the operation, three injured victims were rescued, and a light green Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 620 AU was recovered at the scene.
The victims were rushed to Sahad Hospital in Apo for medical attention. Unfortunately, one of them succumbed to injuries and has been deposited in the hospital morgue.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the territory.
He urged residents, especially those around Apo, to report any individual with gunshot wounds or suspicious injuries, assuring the public of confidentiality.
