The Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has dissociated itself from a recent statement endorsing Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as a potential vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued Sunday in Sokoto, ALGON State Chairman and Tambuwal LGA Chairman, Alhaji Abba Shehu Tambuwal, clarified that the claim made by Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, ALGON Secretary and Kebbe LGA Chairman, was entirely personal.
“Our colleague merely expressed his personal opinion and did not speak on behalf of ALGON,” the statement read.
Tambuwal stressed that Senator Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North in the National Assembly, has neither shown interest in the vice-presidency nor has the APC initiated such discussions.
“The suggestion is premature, misleading, and lacks official backing. ALGON has not endorsed any candidate for 2027,” he added.
The Association urged its members to avoid making unverified political pronouncements, noting that official positions must follow due process and appropriate channels.
“We appeal to our members to be cautious, especially when commenting on sensitive national issues.
“The public should disregard Yarima’s statement as it was neither vetted nor endorsed by ALGON,” the statement concluded.
