President Bola Tinubu on Monday launched the distribution of 2,000 tractors and over 9,000 farm tools under the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme.

The initiative aims to transition Nigeria from subsistence to mechanised farming.

At the flag-off event in Abuja, Tinubu said the programme would open over 550,000 hectares of farmland, produce two million metric tons of food annually, and create 16,000 jobs nationwide.

The distributed equipment includes tractors, ploughs, harrows, seed drills, harvesters, and trailers.

The project is part of a bilateral deal with Belarus and comes with operator training, GPS tracking, and structured repayment plans.

Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, said the initiative is part of Tinubu’s emergency food security plan, adding that it marks a shift “from hand hoes to horsepower.”

Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich, present at the launch, reaffirmed his country’s support for Nigeria’s agricultural transformation.
