Professor Nasir Hassan Wagini, a seasoned biology lecturer at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina, is defying stereotypes by actively running a vegetable business alongside his academic career.

Despite his status as a professor of plant resources, Wagini has chosen to remain grounded in small-scale farming and produce sales, using his life as a model to inspire young Nigerians to embrace entrepreneurship.

In an interview on Monday, he said he was born into a farming family and began trading produce early in life.

His continued involvement in the business is rooted in his belief in self-reliance and practical skill development.

He encouraged young people to pursue small ventures rather than wait endlessly for government or office jobs, urging them to combine formal education with hands-on experience to enhance their employability and success.

Known for his humility and warmth, Wagini has earned the respect of his fellow traders in Batsari market.

A fellow vendor, Uzairu, described him as a kind and respectful man who relates well with everyone, regardless of background.

Wagini’s example challenges traditional notions of success, demonstrating that true leadership includes showing others the dignity in work and the power of self-sufficiency.
