Electricity has been fully restored to Nigeria’s North-East following a prolonged blackout, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), completed the integration of the new 330/132kV Bauchi Transmission Substation into the national grid.

In a statement on Sunday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the substation was energized via the Jos-Bauchi-Gombe transmission corridor, restoring bulk power supply to the region’s six states.

The reconnection was completed at about 4:45 p.m. on June 19.

The outage stemmed from a scheduled shutdown to facilitate the energizing of the newly built Bauchi facility, one of the largest in the North-East.

Mbah warned that ongoing vandalism of transmission infrastructure remains a serious threat to power stability.

She described 2024 and 2025 as especially challenging due to frequent attacks on towers and lines.

With a network of over 16,000 km of transmission lines, 57 major substations, and more than 41,000 towers, TCN maintains the backbone of Nigeria’s electricity grid, currently capable of wheeling 8,700 megawatts.

The company urged local communities to help protect national power infrastructure, stressing that sustained electricity supply requires collective responsibility.
