Nigeria has emerged as the third most formidable military force in Africa, according to the 2025 Global Firepower Military Strength Index.
The annual report, cited by PUNCH Online on Monday, ranks 145 countries based on over 60 indicators, including troop strength, equipment, defense budget, logistics, and geography.
Egypt retained the top spot in Africa, followed by Algeria in second place. Nigeria moved up to third, ahead of South Africa, reflecting its enhanced military capacity through increased investment in personnel, equipment, and counter-terrorism operations.
