Nigeria’s male and female flag football teams have made history by winning both titles at the inaugural African Flag Football Championships held in Cairo, Egypt.

The tournament, which ran from June 20 to 21, saw Nigeria’s men edge hosts Egypt 13-12 in a nail-biting final at Club One Stadium, Maadi, before a spirited crowd that included Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi.

In the women’s final, Nigeria delivered a dominant performance, defeating Morocco 26-12 to secure the gold medal.

With these victories, both teams earned direct qualification for the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships.

“This is a great achievement for us, and I’m proud of every woman out here,” said Nigerian women’s gold medallist Bello, expressing the team’s excitement.
