At least 180 students are expected to compete in the 2025 National Swimming Championships, organized by the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), beginning Tuesday at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

According to Funsho Usman, Secretary-General of the NSSF, the tournament will feature 30 students representing each of the six geopolitical zones of the country.

As of Monday morning, 57 participants had already registered.

“This year’s edition is a collaborative effort with Dynaspro Sports Promotion and the Nigeria Aquatic Federation,” Usman said. “The goal is to discover and nurture young swimming talents capable of representing Nigeria on the international stage.”

The two-day event will include students from both public and private schools, with several medal-winning swimmers from the 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State expected to participate.

Usman explained that the inclusion of private schools was prompted by growing student enthusiasm and the need to widen the talent pool.

“With Dynaspro’s experience and the technical support of the Nigeria Aquatic Federation, we expect to see record-breaking performances and the rise of new stars,” he added.

Registration for all teams closed Monday, with the finals slated for Wednesday. Winners will receive medals and prizes in both individual and team categories.
