President Bola Tinubu has applauded the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister, Nyesom Wike, for the swift completion of the Arterial Road N5 project in Abuja, describing it as a product of fast-thinking and purposeful leadership.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu made the commendation on Friday at the official inauguration of the road, which links Life Camp Junction to Ring Road 3.

The road has been named in honour of the late nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

“This project reflects what is possible when vision meets execution,” Tinubu said. “It improves traffic flow, connects key districts, and enhances the lives of Abuja residents. It is a road for all Nigerians.”

He praised the FCT Administration, residents, and other stakeholders for their collaboration, which ensured timely delivery of the road.

FCT Minister Wike, in his remarks, emphasized that the project was executed in phases, with Phase 3 now completed and Phase 2 scheduled for commissioning before the end of the year.

He revealed that compensation was paid to all affected property owners; indigenous or not.

“Some said non-indigenes shouldn’t be compensated. I disagreed. Under President Tinubu’s government, we ensure fairness.

“Everyone affected was duly compensated, and that made completion possible,” Wike stated.

He added that resolving community resistance required firm, on-the-ground leadership and that the project’s success was a testament to what can be achieved when government keeps its word.

The project is expected to ease congestion across Dape, Gwarinpa 1, Kado, Karsana, Idu, and Mbora, while boosting access and movement around the Life Camp axis.
