The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of 44-year-old Wasiu Akinwande, alias Olori Eso, described as the most wanted and notorious hired assassin in the state’s recent history.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said Akinwande was apprehended in his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, during a covert tactical operation codenamed Silence, Speed and Surprise, executed by the Command’s Tactical Squad.
According to the police, the suspect led a ruthless gang responsible for a string of high-profile killings, especially in the Mushin area.
His arrest is considered a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against violent crime in Lagos.
Recovered from the operation were nine sophisticated firearms including AK-47 and K2 rifles, three pump-action guns, two locally-made pistols, ammunition, walkie-talkies, a dagger, and nine international passports.
The police described Akinwande’s criminal activities as having inflicted “trauma, horror, and pain” on many families.
The Lagos Commissioner of Police has ordered an expanded investigation to track down his accomplices and bring all involved to justice.
