A woman identified as Aladi Offikwu Johnson, also known as Tessy, was found dead in a hotel room on 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, Abuja, after checking in with an unidentified man on Monday night.
According to a witness, hotel staff discovered the room locked from the outside on Tuesday morning.
After several unanswered knocks, they forced the door open and found the victim’s hands tied behind her back and her mouth gagged with a cloth.
The police were alerted and evacuated the body to a morgue.
FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Adeh Josephine, confirmed the incident and said preliminary investigation revealed that the male companion had left the premises alone.
The victim was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, has urged calm as investigations continue.
He also advised young women to be cautious when meeting unfamiliar individuals and to always share their whereabouts with trusted contacts.
