The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a €20 million grant agreement with Germany to support energy transition initiatives focused on renewable energy, vocational training, and improved access for underserved communities.

The agreement, signed in Abuja by Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and German officials Dr. Karin Jansen and Gerald Keuhnemund, is facilitated through the KfW Development Bank and the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund.

Bagudu said the project targets renewable energy adoption, technical training, and infrastructure expansion, with special emphasis on job creation and clean energy access for youth and women.

He urged collaboration with institutions already active in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector to avoid duplication and enhance impact.

Dr. Jansen described the grant as a milestone in Nigeria-Germany cooperation and said the competitive model would fund only high-impact energy projects.

Keuhnemund reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to Nigeria’s climate goals.

The grant aims to spur private sector involvement, reduce emissions, and build local capacity in clean energy.
