Residents of Unguwar Azzara in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT have apprehended one Rabiu Alhassan for allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle after scaling a neighbour’s fence.
The incident occurred around 5:12 a.m. on Thursday when the motorcycle’s owner, Sayyadi, had gone to the mosque for Subhi prayers.
A woman in the compound, who came out to prepare food, spotted the intruder and raised the alarm.
Trapped inside the compound by the locked gate, the suspect was restrained by tenants until Sayyadi returned and handed him over to local vigilantes.
According to residents, Alhassan is notorious in the area and has previously been arrested for similar offences, including breaking into homes and a mosque to steal motorcycles.
A vigilante member, Yakubu Musa, confirmed that the suspect had been detained multiple times but was often released shortly after, only to strike again.
The police in the area said the incident was not formally reported at the station.
