Traffic along the Abuja-Kaduna highway was halted for nearly two hours on Monday following a fatal accident near Madalla junction in Suleja LGA, Niger State, that left three people dead and three others injured.
The accident occurred around 10 a.m. when a trailer reportedly lost control and rammed into a commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep.
Eyewitnesses said the tricycle rider had briefly stepped away to exchange money when the incident occurred.
He sustained injuries, while three of his passengers died on the spot.
The trailer driver and his assistant fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Efforts to remove the trailer initially failed until a crane eventually lifted it off the crushed tricycle, allowing the highway to reopen.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), at the scene confirmed the incident and said an investigation is ongoing.
