The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two notorious cultists linked to the murder of SP Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), of Ahoada Division, who was killed in 2023.

According to the police, the suspects, identified as Goodluck, aka K1, and Precious Olumini, are members of the dreaded Iceland cult group and served as close associates of the late cult leader, Gift Okpara, popularly known as 2-Baba.

The spokesperson for the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the arrests were made following credible intelligence and a swift operation by the Command’s Octopus Tactical Unit.

Police operatives stormed the suspects’ hideout in Ikata community, Ahoada East Local Government Area, and recovered several weapons, including a locally made single-barreled gun, two live cartridges, an English-made pump-action rifle, and a locally fabricated pistol.

The suspects reportedly confessed to being active members of the Iceland cult group responsible for terrorizing the Ahoada East axis of the state.

The Command stated that both the suspects and the recovered exhibits are in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

“The safety of our communities remains a top priority. We will not relent in our fight to dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators of violence to justice,” he said.
