During President Bola Tinubu’s condolence visit to Benue State following recent deadly attacks, schoolchildren were reportedly made to stand for hours under the rain to welcome the president.

Several primary and secondary school students were seen lining the streets in the heavy downpour as the presidential convoy passed, with many getting splashed by moving vehicles.

The incident occurred on a day declared a public holiday by the state government, raising concerns over the decision to involve students in such conditions.

The development has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with users condemning what they described as a show of poor judgment and disregard for the children’s welfare.

“This is not how to demonstrate leadership or respect for children,” one user commented.

In reaction, student bodies such as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), have shifted focus back to the root of the president’s visit.

They are calling for meaningful action to address the security crisis, including justice for the victims of the Yelwata killings, urgent security reforms, and adequate support for affected families.
