A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a local trader to seven years imprisonment after finding him guilty of drug trafficking.

The trader, whose name was not disclosed, was arrested at [insert location if known] after NDLEA operatives found a quantity of illicit drugs in his possession.

He was subsequently charged under the NDLEA Act for trafficking illegal substances.

During the trial, the defendant pleaded guilty. The prosecution presented compelling evidence, including drug samples, laboratory reports, and eyewitness testimonies.

Although the defense appealed for leniency, citing the trader’s family obligations and lack of prior convictions, the presiding judge stressed that drug trafficking is a grave offense with devastating societal impacts.

Delivering the judgment, the court sentenced the trader to seven years imprisonment without the option of a fine.

The judge noted that the sentence should serve as a deterrent and a message that justice will prevail in cases involving drug crimes.

Reacting to the verdict, the NDLEA welcomed the ruling and reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug abuse and trafficking across the country.

In a statement, the agency urged citizens, especially the youth, to stay away from drugs and report any suspicious activity to authorities.

“Drug trafficking destroys lives, families, and futures. The law is clear, and the consequences are real,” the NDLEA spokesperson said.
