The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested former Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker, Moses Thomas Sule, and 14 former lawmakers over alleged money laundering and abuse of procurement laws.
The arrests, conducted by operatives from the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate on June 17, followed petitions from concerned citizens accusing the lawmakers of breaching the Money Laundering Act, 2022.
The suspects allegedly served for just six months but took possession of luxury vehicles worth about ₦2.5 billion, which were never returned after their exit from office.
Efforts by the state to recover the vehicles reportedly failed, forcing the government to spend another ₦2 billion to purchase new cars for their successors.
Those arrested include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, and others.
The EFCC says formal charges will be filed soon.
