President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security agencies to immediately implement earlier presidential orders aimed at restoring peace in Benue State, following a resurgence of deadly violence and reprisal killings.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the attacks, describing them as “depressing” and unacceptable.
“We must not allow this bloodletting to continue. Enough is enough,” Tinubu declared, mandating the police, military, and intelligence services to take full control of the situation.
He urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to urgently initiate peace and reconciliation efforts among warring groups in the state.
“This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and lead dialogue that will restore peace to Benue,” he said.
The President decried the ongoing clashes involving farmers, herders, and other factions, labeling the killings as “inhuman and anti-progress.”
He stressed that meaningful development cannot take place in an atmosphere of violence.
Tinubu also warned political and community leaders against inflammatory rhetoric, urging them to act responsibly and help de-escalate tensions.
He assured that all perpetrators of violence will be brought to justice.
