Bauchi CP Mourns as About-to-Wed DPO, Two Friends Die in Crash

Tragedy struck in Bauchi State as a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Mustapha Garba, died in a fatal crash less than an hour before his wedding Fatiha.

Garba, aged 42 and in charge of the Railway Division, was en route to Magama Gumau from Gumau when the accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday along the Bargar Tsamiya area in Toro Local Government Area.

According to police spokesperson Mohammed Wakil, the DPO was driving a Mercedes-Benz with three friends onboard when he hit a pothole, lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and collided with a stationary Opel Astra before the car somersaulted into the bush.

Two people, including 45-year-old Shaaibu Cheski, were confirmed dead at the Toro General Hospital. Two others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

The Bauchi State Police Command, in an official statement, confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow. “SP Mustapha Garba was on his way to his wedding when the unfortunate incident occurred,” it read.

Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori, ordered immediate evacuation of the victims and extended condolences to the grieving families, praying for strength and comfort in their time of loss.
