A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), George Turnah, has described President Bola Tinubu, the Supreme Court, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as true defenders of democracy in Nigeria.

Turnah, who is the Acting Chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State, commended the trio for their “courage, boldness, and unwavering commitment” to democratic values, particularly in the face of recent political turbulence in Rivers State.

Speaking in Yenagoa, Turnah lauded President Tinubu for what he called his “pivotal leadership role” in safeguarding democratic governance.

According to him, Tinubu demonstrated rare political will and integrity in supporting constitutional order after the Supreme Court revealed that Rivers State had lacked proper democratic governance.

“President Tinubu’s steadfast courage in the face of adversity and his bold political will have proven essential.

His unwavering stance highlights the importance of integrity in governance and reminds leaders of the responsibilities that come with power,” Turnah stated.

He further praised the Supreme Court as the guardian of justice, commending its role in upholding judicial independence and reinforcing the rule of law.

Turnah also reserved strong words of praise for Minister Nyesom Wike, noting his “relentless resistance to impunity” both within Rivers State governance structures and inside the PDP itself.

“Wike’s fight against undemocratic practices has been consistent and courageous,” he said.

The PDP chieftain extended his commendation to the 27 pro-Wike members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, whom he described as “true defenders of democracy,” and also hailed the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the South-South Zonal Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, for their roles in resisting internal party oppression.

Turnah’s remarks come amid ongoing intra-party tensions and governance challenges in Rivers State, where loyalty lines and political power struggles have tested democratic institutions and party unity.
