Posters featuring Ibadan-based broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo FM, Hamzat Oriyomi, have flooded parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, fueling speculation about his possible entry into politics ahead of the 2027 general election.

The posters, bearing the slogan “2027 Oyo n pe o” alongside a black-and-white image of Oriyomi, suggest growing grassroots support for his candidacy, although the specific political office he may contest remains unclear.

In a video shared by one of his support groups, Oriyomi was seen attending an event where supporters chanted enthusiastically, urging him to accept what they described as a call to serve. “Okiki (Hamzat), Oyo is calling you. Answer their call,” the crowd cheered.

Reacting to criticism over Oriyomi’s potential shift from broadcasting to politics, a post from the ‘Oyo n pe o’ social media page argued that good governance is not exclusive to career politicians.

“The notion that governance requires more than communication skills is a misconception,” the statement read in part. “Effective broadcasting involves connecting with people, understanding their needs, and conveying messages with empathy; qualities that are essential for strong leadership.”

The group described critics of Oriyomi’s political ambition as either misinformed or prejudiced, emphasizing that leadership is defined by vision, courage, and a commitment to public service not by one’s professional background.

As of the time of filing this report, Oriyomi has not confirmed or denied any plans to run for office in 2027, and efforts to reach him for comments were unsuccessful.
