The Take It Back Movement, organisers of the planned June 12 protest, have announced Eagle Square as the convergence point for demonstrators in Abuja.

Set to begin by 8:00 a.m., the protest coincides with Nigeria’s Democracy Day and is aimed at highlighting issues of economic hardship, insecurity, and the shrinking civic space under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking on Monday, National Coordinator Juwon Sanyaolu said the protest would demand accountability and reaffirm citizens’ democratic rights.

“Our demands remain the same. June 12 is a symbolic day for democracy, and we are using it to call for accountability and good governance,” Sanyaolu said.

He accused the current administration of failing in its constitutional responsibility to ensure the security and welfare of Nigerians, while also stifling free speech and dissent.

“Freedom of speech is under serious threat. Critics and opposition voices are being hunted down. This protest is our way of reclaiming the civic space,” he added.

Sanyaolu also issued a stern warning to security agencies, insisting that any form of repression would be unconstitutional.

“The right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the Constitution and affirmed by the Supreme Court. Security agencies must protect, not attack, protesters,” he said.
