Gully erosion threatening homes in Unguwar Abattoir, Abaji Area Council of the FCT, is now spreading to neighbouring communities, raising alarm among residents and community leaders.

In Unguwar Rafin Sahara, at least six houses are reported to be affected, with residents warning that without urgent intervention, more structures may be lost this rainy season.

“Heavy rainfall sends water directly into our compounds because there’s no proper drainage or culvert,” said a resident.

In Unguwar Abattoir, families have already begun vacating their homes after erosion rendered them unsafe. Some, lost entire buildings.

Despite multiple letters and visits to the area council, residents say they have received only promises and no action.

Community leaders warn that erosion may soon cut off vital access roads and isolate parts of the area if left unchecked.
