The Katsina State Police Command says joint security forces have foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued 11 victims during a patrol operation in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred at about 10.30 pm on Sunday, June 8, when a combined team of police operatives, the military, DSS, Operation Sharan Daji personnel, vigilantes, and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps confronted a group of armed bandits along the Danmusa to Mara Dangeza road.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the bandits, who had abducted the victims from different locations, were intercepted as they attempted to escape.

A gun battle ensued, forcing the attackers to flee and leading to the successful rescue of all eleven hostages, which included nine women and two men.

The police said an investigation is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects and to avert future incidents.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, praised the operatives for their courage and restated the command’s dedication to combating kidnapping and other crimes in the state.

He called on residents to support security efforts by promptly reporting any suspicious activity to the police or through emergency hotlines.
