The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD), has issued a public alert, warning residents of expected heavy rainfall from Sunday through Tuesday in parts of the FCT and surrounding states.

The acting Director-General of FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed, made this known in a statement on Sunday. He advised residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the anticipated downpours.

“We urge residents to avoid driving through floodwaters and to wait for water levels to recede before moving vehicles,” Mohammed said.

He also cautioned against the use of electrical appliances during the rain, noting the risk of electrical hazards.

In the event of an emergency, he urged residents to call the toll-free emergency number 112 for immediate assistance.

This warning follows a forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), which predicted thunderstorms and rainfall across various regions.

NiMet noted that parts of the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau states would likely experience cloudy skies in the morning followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon.

FEMD has called on residents to remain alert and cooperative. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and encourage everyone to take these simple but vital safety steps,” Mohammed said.

The department also urged citizens to remain informed and reach out promptly in case of emergencies.
