President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, as part of activities marking the 2025 Democracy Day celebration.
This was confirmed in a communication to lawmakers by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Yahaya Danzaria, who noted that the President is expected to arrive at the National Assembly complex by noon, with proceedings starting at 11:00 a.m. in the House of Representatives chamber.
Speaking on the development, House spokesman Akintunde Rotimi said the joint session of the Senate and the House will celebrate 26 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.
This year’s theme is “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”
President Tinubu will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and deliver a keynote address focused on Nigeria’s democratic journey, the role of the legislature, and shared aspirations for national progress.
The session will include goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of National Honours on selected legislators by the President.
The event underscores the National Assembly’s central role in sustaining democracy, fostering accountability, and supporting the country’s development.
The House of Representatives also urged Nigerians to mark Democracy Day with a renewed sense of patriotism and dedication to building a united and forward-looking nation.
