The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians as the nation celebrates 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, describing the milestone as a testament to the country’s resilience and political growth.
He said June 12 stands as a symbol of the people’s collective struggle for justice and democratic freedom.
According to him, the day represents Nigeria’s continued march toward a society built on truth, justice, peace, and renewed hope.
The minister noted that democracy is a dynamic system that evolves through active participation and commitment.
He reiterated the administration’s dedication to democratic principles, assuring that President Bola Tinubu’s government remains focused on promoting the will of the people and advancing the nation’s development in all sectors.
