The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that Abuja remains the safest city in Nigeria as security agencies intensify efforts to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
In his 2025 Eid-el-Kabir goodwill message, Wike stated that the FCT Administration is working closely with security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the Territory.
He expressed pride in the city’s security status, saying, “I am proud to say that Abuja remains the safest city in the country, and we are doing everything possible to keep it that way.”
He addressed concerns over a recent explosion in the city which caused panic among residents. He clarified that the incident was an industrial accident and not an act of terrorism.
“The explosion was industrial in nature, not a terrorist attack.
“Immediate investigations were conducted, and safety protocols are being reinforced to prevent a recurrence,” he said.
Wike credited the ongoing development in the FCT to the strong support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that a series of completed infrastructure projects across various sectors would soon be commissioned.
“We owe the rapid development of the FCT to the unalloyed support the President has given to the FCT Administration.
“In the coming days, we will begin commissioning a plethora of completed projects in healthcare, education, agriculture, and transportation,” he stated.
He called on residents to pray for the President’s continued strength and wisdom, adding that the Renewed Hope Agenda is already yielding results across the Territory.
Wike extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful and all residents of the FCT, describing Eid-el-Kabir as a time for spiritual reflection, sacrifice, and renewed commitment to national unity and development.
“This celebration is not only a spiritual milestone but also a time to renew our commitment to peace, tolerance, and mutual respect,” he said. “Let the spirit of Eid inspire us to uplift one another and show kindness to the less privileged among us.”
He praised the Muslim community for its role in promoting peaceful coexistence in the FCT and emphasized that their values contribute significantly to the nation’s unity.
“The Nigeria of our dreams is achievable when citizens and leaders work together, anchored on faith, sacrifice, and collective resolve,” he added.
Wike concluded his message by wishing all residents a peaceful and joyous celebration. “May Allah accept our prayers and sacrifices, and may He continue to bless the FCT and our dear nation, Nigeria. Eid Mubarak.”
