The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disowned a fake Facebook account impersonating its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and allegedly issuing false information and awarding fraudulent contracts.
In a statement on Friday, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said the account was created by impostors and urged the public to disregard any communication from it.
“This fraudulent account is being used to award fake contracts, request assistance, and offer rewards,” the statement said, adding that Ambassador Ahmed does not operate any social media account.
The Ministry said it is working with security agencies and Meta to investigate and shut down the page. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and urged the public to remain vigilant against online scams.
