Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has announced his retirement from international football at just 24.
The Bayer Leverkusen forward made the surprise announcement late Friday on Instagram, shortly after Nigeria’s 1–1 draw with Russia in a friendly match in Moscow.
“Proud to play for my country… I don hang boot,” Boniface wrote, reflecting on both the highs and lows of his brief national team career.
Boniface started the match but failed to score. His substitute, Tolu Arokodare, netted the equaliser in the 71st minute.
The striker has faced growing criticism over his goal drought for Nigeria.
