Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has taken down a post from his Instagram page in which he appeared to announce his retirement from international football at the age of 24.
The Bayer Leverkusen forward made the cryptic post shortly after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Russia on Friday night, writing, “I don hang boot” and expressing gratitude to fans for the experience.
The post was deleted hours later without explanation.
Boniface’s decision has sparked speculation, especially as no official clarification has been issued by the player or the Nigeria Football Federation.
The young striker has come under criticism lately for his lack of goals with the national team and is also reportedly facing uncertainty at his club following recent managerial changes at Leverkusen.
