A fire outbreak triggered by a battery explosion on Friday afternoon devastated parts of the popular Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano, destroying 47 shops, the State Fire Service has confirmed.

The inferno, which engulfed both floors of a one-storey building, was reported at about 12:32 p.m.

Senior Fire Superintendent Musa Ya’u disclosed that the fire affected 20 permanent and 13 temporary shops on the ground floor, as well as 13 shops and a temporary structure on the upper floor.

Firefighters responded swiftly under the supervision of the Director of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, who coordinated efforts to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.

The Fire Service has since urged traders and the public to handle batteries and electrical appliances with extreme caution to avert future tragedies.
